Exhibition at Waverley Homestead

with 2 comments

Waverley Homestead is preparing to host an exhibition of large painted canvases by artist Pauline McPharlin. Her new series of expressive and bold works was initially inspired by the variety of birds visiting the washpool near Sellicks Beach. After rains, migratory and local birds swoop and circle in patterns of movement. The dynamics of the flocks, the lines of their wings, particularly black and white against the burnt orange Sellicks cliffs and the nearby bald golden hills are expressed in large richly coloured paintings.

This interest in flight and landscape led Pauline, along with two women friends, to charter a plane, from the local Aldinga airstrip, for an absolutely amazing flight to Lake Eyre. The rich ochre colours of the landscape from above, the lines of vegetation in shallow creek beds, the massive organic shapes of the lakes, in particular, Lake Eyre, were mind blowing. These images have resulted in more painted expressions and patterns of bird flights over an incredible landscape.

The exhibition will be opened on July 4th at 3pm, by Bob Moore, himself a bird enthusiast and conservationist of our natural heritage.

Open Saturdays 11-2, July 4 – August 1
